Summary
We went on a hashing recce in Seletar recently — not your usual park connector kind of walk. Think overgrown bushes, quiet little streams (with actual fish!), and a few unexpected manholes hiding under the grass. It’s not a polished route, but that’s part of the fun.
We’re not pro hashers or trail runners — just a couple who love exploring with our Aussie shepherd and seeing if places are dog-safe. This one? Definitely adventurous, a bit muddy in parts, and you’ll want to watch your step near the stream and manholes. But totally doable.
If you’re into off-leash romps, sniffs galore, and don’t mind getting a little dirty — this could be your kind of trail. Just maybe check it out solo first before bringing your doggo along. That’s what we do.
Hashing Period
The hike starts at the trailhead in Seletar and winds through about 3.5km of mostly natural terrain. Expect to spend around 35 to 45 minutes on the trail, depending on your fitness level and pace.
The main challenges are the thick bushes and scattered twigs along the way — nothing too crazy, but you’ll want to wear appropriate footwear and watch your step. Other than that, the hike is quite manageable and perfect for a quick outdoor adventure.
Terrain
The terrain’s a mix of surprises. You’ll come across some manholes scattered around, so watch your step.
There are heavy shrubs and bushes, but don’t worry—you won’t need a parang to get through. The dogs find it pretty easy to run through, but humans can get stuck more often than you’d think.
We carried umbrellas just in case there were wild boars (you never know!), but honestly, the umbrellas kept getting caught on branches and plants more than anything else.
Speaking of plants, there are some sharp ones that kept scratching us along the way. The plant sap was a real troublemaker for Shafik’s legs—left them super itchy!
Equipment
No fancy equipment needed for this hike—just the basics will do.
- A good pair of hiking shoes to handle the bushes and uneven ground.
- Long trousers to protect your legs from scratches and itchy plants.
- Don’t go sleeveless—stick to a good old t-shirt for some arm coverage.
- For dogs, a harness is a must, plus a leash. The harness is especially important in case your dog accidentally falls into a manhole or tricky spot.
Location
The trail is located in Seletar, specifically around West Road 1, right next to a dormitory. Easy to find and a quiet spot to escape the city buzz for a bit.
Parking at West Road 1 is a bit tricky — technically, there’s no legal parking there. But since it’s quite remote with no nearby buildings or regular vehicle traffic, many just park there quietly. Just be mindful and use your judgment if you decide to leave your car there.
Safety first: Keep an eye out for a few hazards on the trail. There are some cliffs, so make sure your dog doesn’t hop or jump down any steep drops.
Watch your step around manholes — they can be hidden in the bushes.
And beware of sharp plants and twigs that can scratch both you and your furry friend.
